Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) Mandated by
General Services Administration (GSA)
“The
dedicated 100-percent outdoor air ventilation
systems shall
be completely independent of any other air distribution system.
Building exhaust air heat recovery shall be provided to precondition
the outdoor air.”
Facility Standard P100, Section 5.4
This
Standard Applies To:
- New buildings
- Major and minor alterations
- Work
on historic structures
ERV Recommended by the
Department of Energy
"[Energy
recovery ventilation] systems reduce the heating and cooling peak
energy demands and can reduce the heating energy consumption of
buildings by 30 percent to 50 percent...
Effective use of energy recovery devices results in decreased loads on
the heating and cooling mechanical equipment. Equipment with reduced
capacities can then be purchased. The savings gained from purchasing
smaller equipment often exceeds the first cost of the energy recovery
devices.”
